Bradesco’s Chairman Luiz Carlos Trabuco Cappi Has A Strong CEO In Octavio de Lazari

Lázaro de Mello Brandão, Bradesco’s oldest employee, retired in 2017. Mr. Brandão was around when Banco Bradesco was a small bank in a small town in Sao Paulo. In fact, Brandão and founder Amador Aguiar are responsible for the incredible growth of Bradesco, even though Brazil has been up and down the political ladder for the last 70 years. Cappi is on his own now when it comes to leading the bank into the 21st-century. But he’s not really on his own. Cappi has a strong executive team in place now that he is sitting in the Chairman of the Board’s chair. Cappi was astute enough to put together a strong executive team over the last nine years, and most of those executives are still in decision-making positions. One of the executives, Octavio de Lazari, the former president of the bank’s insurance division, Seguros, took Cappi’s place as CEO, and Vinicius Almeida Albernaz is taking Lazari’s spot as the president of Seguros.

When Cappi and Brandão were looking for a replacement for CEO, Cappi they put a list of six executives together who he thought could do the job. Those executives were vice presidents in charge of various departments within the bank. Most Bradesco’s employees working in Sao Paulo though Mauricio de Minas, the IT vice president, would get the job, but Cappi liked Lazari. And the reason Cappi liked Lazari was Lazari did an excellent job producing profit for the bank while he was managing the insurance division, but he also liked Lazari because they have a long work history. Four of the vice presidents who were candidates for the CEO position are on the bank’s Board of Directors now, but they will still be part of Lazari’s and Cappi’s executive team.
